ASEAN FINANCE MINISTERS' MEETING BEGINS TODAY

 

 

THE 17th Asean Finance Minister’s Meeting (17th AFMM) will officially kick-off this morning at The Empire Hotel and Country Club, which will see the attendance of several regional leaders in the world of finance.

 Among those who are expected to take part are Central Bank Governors Troika from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia and Myanmar, Secretary General of Asean and representatives from international financial institutions including the Asean Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the Asean+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO).

The gathering is expected to discuss, among others, the progress of various areas of Asean finance cooperation along with other financial-related issues in line with Brunei Darussalam’s Asean Chairmanship theme ‘Our People, Our Future Together’.

The 17th AFMM was preceded by various preparatory meetings attended by Asean Finance and Central Bank Deputies as well as Asean Finance Senior Officials.

The finance ministers will discuss financial and monetary initiatives and cooperation in building the Asean Economic Community.

The Ministry of Finance said Singapore will be represented by Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

The ministry said Tharman will also sign the Singapore-Cambodia memorandum of understanding on financial cooperation with Cambodia Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Economy and Finance, Keat Chhon, Bernama reported.
