Islam spread by Prophet's Values

THE honourable values of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) were the main factor that pushed the development and spread of Islam to about 1.6 billion followers in the span of 1,436 years, according to Professor Dr Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah.

The professor, from Malaysia, was a guest speaker during the Brunei Investment Agency’s religious talk in conjunction with Maulud Nabi celebrations at the Ministry of Finance’s Theater Hall.

He said as Islam was first spread in secrecy for over 13 years by Prophet Muhammad (SAW), it wasn’t the teachings of Islam that persuaded people to embrace it; it was the Prophet’s moral values that attracted others.

Without going into details on the Prophet’s values, the professor said it had shown how powerful and extraordinary Islam is, as it was first established in the Middle East during a period when people would bury their children, drink alcohol and kill.

However, even in such a scenario, Islam prevailed and changed those with improper moral values into accepting and embracing the values of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

“Islam was first established in a very dirty place, a place with bad people who would bury babies, drink alcohol and hurt others. However, this is the strength of Islam. It still prevailed and changed the place into a cleaner place and changed the bad people into good,” said the professor.

He also mentioned how negative the view of Islam is in the western world, with people calling the religion extreme. However, he explained that the religion does not teach its followers to be extreme while it actually teaches compassion and understanding in the way of the Prophet’s values.

He added that through his own experience, as he is also an Islamic convert, he also does not force others to join Islam, including his own siblings, as Islam does not allow forcing others into the religion. However, those around him, including his brothers and nephews, converted to Islam due to the professor’s change in lifestyle and values when he adopted Islam.

The religious talk, titled “Rasulullah Contoh Ikutan Sepanjang Zaman” or ‘Rasulullah the Example to Follow Until the End of Time,’ was followed by a Dikir Marhaban by the officers and staff of the Ministry of Finance.

The Acting Director of the Brunei Investment Agency Junaidi Hj Masri also gave a short welcoming speech during the ceremony.

Present as the guest of honour was Minister of Finance II at the Prime Minister’s Office Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Hj Abd Rahman Hj Ibrahim along with the deputy minister at the Ministry of Finance and other senior ministry officials.
