Steps taken to raise awareness on financial management

Sunday 13 March - STEPS in disseminating information on financial literacy have continuously been implemented by the Employees Trust Fund (TAP) and Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) with the objective of enhancing public knowledge and awareness on financial management and planning.

This was said by YB Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance II, during the Legislative Council Meeting yesterday.

Among the initiatives are briefing sessions and roadshows held in cooperation with a number of government and financial agencies.

The minister said there were also seminars and forums related to financial planning conducted at secondary schools and higher education institutions.

These initiatives, he added, were also made available for youngsters who had just joined the workforce, retired government staff and couples who are about to get married.

“The programmes also take place in villages and mukim, with the help of penghulu and village heads.

“Financial planning competitions between schools are also organised to help educate students,” said the minister.

“Financial management and planning must be supported at all levels.

“The habit of prudent spending must be inculcated in people from young, and this starts at home,” he added.
